Young, Fearless and Focused : Nthabiseng Majiya Making Her Mark for Club and Country
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Banyana Banyana forward, Nthabiseng Majiya grew up in Philippolis, a place she proudly calls home and credits for shaping her into the person and player she is today.
Her love for football started at a very young age, playing alongside her brothers and friends when she was just six or seven years old. It was during those early days that she realised football was more than just a game to her, it was her dream. Inspired by Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr., she says, “He’s my biggest inspiration, and even to this day, I still wish to meet him one day.”
Majiya’s football journey has been built on determination and resilience. She recalls joining a struggling team and helping inspire belief among the players. Despite the challenges, she describes the experience as a rewarding journey filled with both good and difficult moments that helped her grow. She remains grateful to every coach and teammate who played a role in her development.
Her hard work eventually earned her the opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in women’s football, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, a moment she describes as surreal. “It felt like a dream. Everybody wants to play for the biggest club, and I get the opportunity to play for them,” she says, adding that sharing the field with experienced players has been an unforgettable experience.
Majiya continues to push herself to compete at the highest level. Representing her country at one of Africa’s biggest tournaments, the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, was another major milestone in her career. “It meant a lot to become one of the youngest players at the tournament and to step up for my country,” she added. Competing against some of the best players on the continent strengthened her hunger for success.
Off the field, Majiya describes herself as calm and someone who enjoys her own space. One common misconception about her, however, is that people think she is always funny and never serious. Beneath her calm personality is a fiercely passionate footballer determined to leave her mark on the game.
