At the 2023 SPAR National Netball Championships, which were hosted at Hoërskool Rustenburg, Kamogelo Moiloe's team, Bojanala Netball Senior, won the bronze medal. She also received the award for Most Developed Player for her outstanding performance.

Raised in the North West province's Rustenburg, Moiloe has faced off against the greatest in netball, most notably when national player Zanele Vimbela was her opponent.

She played for the NWU Potchefstroom Campus, and among her accomplishments are her USSA victory in 2019 and her interactions with players like Didintle Keebine, Simoné Le Roux, Monique Reyneke-Meyer, Romé Joubert, and Jessica Du Plessis.

In order to show off her skills on the court, Moiloe hopes to make her court debut in the Telkom Netball League.

Kamogelo Moiloe talks with us about her experience:

Kamogelo, thank you for chatting to us. Congratulations on winning the most developed player at the 2023 SPAR Netball National Championship. How did it feel to win the award and what does it mean for you in your netball career?

All I can say is WOW!!! I didn’t expect that; it honestly came as a shock to me because I wasn’t really there for the awards but the gold. But I’m super thankful.

What are your thoughts of the overall tournament and your team’s performance?

The tournament was fun and competitive but in an amazing way. I think we learned as a team to grow and be there for one another. We played as a team till the end. Just unfortunate that we didn’t make it to the finals of it but we managed to grab the bronze medal because we were not going home empty handed. And I’m super proud of my team.

What did you learn from the tournament?

To play to the best of your ability and give it your all because you never know who’s watching. And I also learned that to be the best you’ve got to compete with the best of the best. Because never in a million years did I think I’d be defended by Zanele Vimbela, a true legend.

Now please tell us about yourself and where you are from?

My name is Kamogelo Moiloe, I live in Rustenburg (Sunrise Park) to be exact. I’m 24 years of age. I used to play netball for the NWU, Potchefstroom Campus. That’s where I made my Varsity debut and I graduated in 2021. So now I play netball for my club called Diego.

When and where did your love for sports begin?

My love for sports started before I even went to primary because I used to watch my sister play and wanted to be like her. When I went to primary (Laërskool Rustenburg) I started playing there. I also fell in love with athletics. I was a field athlete, I did high jump and javelin, but netball was my first priority. My coach used to say I have a natural play in me, not knowing that I used to train with my sister after hours and it became second nature to me.

If you didn’t play netball, where would we find you?

Athletics for sure, javelin most specifically.

Who or what inspires you?

My mom and sister are my inspiration in life. But when it comes to netball, it most definitely is Steph Wood from Australia.

What has been some of your career highlights?

Firstly, I would say making my varsity cup debut in 2018. In my first year I got to share the court with my role model, Romé Joubert.

I got to play with amazing players like Simoné Le Roux, Monique Reyneke-Meyer, Romé Joubert, Jessica Du Plessis, Didintle Keebine and many more. Secondly when we won the USSA title back in 2019 for the first time ever. And my most recent one, at the SPAR National Netball Championships to win the most developed player, plus making the U23 development squad as well.

What’s your advice for those who want to play netball?

My advice to young ladies out there is that netball keeps you off the streets and away from boys/men. It helps you grow as an individual and there’s so much to learn. Netball can take you places you never thought you’d see or visit. It brings out the best in women and you get to meet different ladies out there. Maybe one of the good days you might be the next Bongi Msomi.

What else do you want to achieve?

To make my debut at the Telkom Netball League next year. This year I missed it by an inch and next year I’m prepared to take my place, where I belong.
